The Green Foundation was formed as a response to growing local public concern over norther pollution and health issues.
1987 to present

Research and maintenance of a large database conerncing sustainable natural housing technologies and alternate energy systems.
1989
Valleyview, Alberta
The initiation of the first major recycling facility north of Edmonton, Alberta.  This $150,000 facility diverted a large amount of "waste" from the area landfill.
1990
Valleyview, Alberta
Herbicide Poisoning from roadside sprayings
  • Began an investigation at the request of a local beekeeper who had most of his bees kileld by roadside spraying.
  • With the assistance of an expert, the Green Foundation was able to prove the herbicide connection and later, through education and community support was able to greatly reduce the practice of roadside herbicide spraying in the area.
1990 to 1999
Northern Alberta
Oil Field Air Pollution, Northern Alberta
  • Hosted an NGO workshop in 1990 on the subject of air pollution in Northern Alberta with some Industry participation.
  • Assisted farmers and individuals from across Alberta who were experiencing problems with air pollution on their land.
  • Provided technical information, referrals to regulatory mechanicsms and networking support opportunities.
1991 to 1993
Alberta & Columbia
Partnership with CENSAT
  • CENSAT is a South American NGO which had taken up the cause of several communities in northern Columbia where coal mining had destroyed community water and air quality.
  • The Green Foundation sponsored the expenses of two flights to Canada from Columbia for CENSAT representatives to speak in Canada and gather support from Alberta coal unions and companies.
1993
Valleyview, Alberta
Organized a workshop to promote eco-tourism potential in the north; workshop presentation was by eco-tourism expert, Dr. Jim Butler.
1994 to 1998
Edson, Alberta
Began first phase of development of an educational/demonstration center called Borealis
1994
Borealis, Edson
Began offering a series of boreal education workshops and ecotours.
2000
Borealis, Edson
Began Phase Two of construction of educational facility
2004
Borealis, Edson
