- Eco-village Development through Design, Project Coordination & Construction
Mission: The Green Foundation mission is to promote and assist in the creation of ecovillages and ecotechnology.
Objectives: The GF has four related objectives
1. Education and Promotion:
Improve the awareness and importance of sustainable communities. Share successful examples through literature, networking, public presentations, workshops, tours, training and conferences.
2. Ecotechnology:
Gather and develop database of sustainable technology best practices. Source experts in the field. Find and Demonstrate technologies required to achieve a sustainable civilization (beginning at the local level). The technology gathered by the Green Foundation are described as follows:
- a) Water, energy and resource conservation. All to be guided by application of "Ecological Footprint" analysis for realistic assessment.
- b) Micropower and applications of renewable energy, such as: wind power, wood fuel and solar energy for electricity, hot water, water purification and desalination
- c) Appropriate building systems for healthy houses and structures, which use primarily natural local materials.
- d) Sustainable and healthy methods for community waste reduction and management.
- e) . Ecological and local food production. Applying a land use policy with the direction of Permaculture design.
- f) Restoration Ecology; Pollution clean up and prevention at the community level.
3. Research : Maintain a research effort to determine the best possible technological options and social models available for the creation of sustainable communities.
This research effort includes:
- a) Taking from the best living examples within the global ecovillage movement.
- b) Learning from the best living and ancient examples from sustainable indigenous cultures.
- c) find, catalogue and share knowledge of ecotechnologies from around the world,
from history and from ancient times. ( one example of this is the study and testing of ancient shelter technologies for modern applications)
- d) Initiate an ecotechnology interpretive center for public use. This Centre will be an integrated demonstration of sustainable technologies and will also house some research activities.
4. Eco-community Development: The Green foundation has recently chose to offer full ecovillage development services from conception to construction. These services include:
- 1. Assessment: feasibility of an eco- community for a particular location. Adaptation of an existing development.
- 2. Coordinate and manage a local design development team of professionals, builders and future residents.
- 3. Complete design including area-structure-plan, landscape design, building and street design, etc
- 4. Ecological infrastructure design for renewable energy power and water systems
- 5. Community based food production and storage plan; short-term and long-term.
- 6. Legal and community organizational "template" based on local cultural needs. Community bylaws and guide-lines are taken from best practice examples.
- 7. Planning for an ongoing educational and maintenance strategy for the life of the community.
